Monday

Yesterday, Daisy and I went out for a run around. One of the great things about having a dog, is it forces us to get out of the apartment, at least a few times a day. Good for the soul you know. We have a wonderful area just a few steps from our front door, complete with an open field and a steep, waist high, grassed embankment, which leads brave explorers into a dense thicket of trees. This is mine and Daisy favourite spot, as nobody in their right mind, out for a Sunday stroll, would venture down there. But we do. There is a herd of deer which populates the thicket (not everybody knows about them), which we were lucky enough to encounter. In fact one of the herd got a little side tracked and bounded right at us, before seeing us and darting off again. So this is why I love Chapel Hill. Daisy didn't quite know what to do, but she did raise her back hairs menacingly. Way to go Daisy, very intimidating. Of course this same dog is now sprawled out on the floor, chewing on her bone as content as can be.I can't wait for the summer, there is a stocked bass pond in the neighborhood next door and, even though there are signs telling me not to, I fully intend to drop a line in those murky waters and see what comes out. Perhaps before work on a Tuesday. Home owner association be damned! "Haven't you ever read ' Danny the Champion of the World'?", it's never any fun if it's legal. In any case, if I was living one hundred yards in the other direction, then I wouldn't be doing anything wrong. Who can argue with that logic. Small minded people you say; I heartily agree. A friend of mine from work and I are planning on heading off to the mountains this Saturday in search of native brook trout, or brookies as they are affectionately known. We just checked the weather report which is calling for sub zero temperatures and snow. Perfect fishing weather, nobody else will be on the river. My new fishing partner has fished most of the streams in Western North Carolina and I am eager to begin my education. I just know what my dear wife is going to say upon reading this blog and she's right, I am becoming more like my father every day...
