Hi there. The thing about long absences is that upon your return, there is a lot to say. Let's start with the weather. No groans - I'm not taking a page from Ben. It's just so astronomically unbearably hot here at the moment that I have to say so. It's that hot. It's so hot. You can't imagine How Hot. 96 degrees at 9 o'clock at night. Truly. Heat like this makes everyday life just Too Much. The most you can do is take extra naps and hope to dream about someplace cool and breezy. It's all that can be expected of anyone in heat like this. Naps.
But on to other subjects, because there are certainly more important things to discuss besides the weather. Following a very dreary week that can not be fully divulged in this little corner of the world, things have finally started looking up. And on Sunday night, I even started feeling optimistic again. What with the possiblity of change. And the fact that we had gone out for ice cream cones and spent the day looking for homes to buy and a week ahead of promising meetings.
So, yes, we are officially looking for a house. A cozy little house that will fit two people and a rowdy dog. A house with a little character, preferably, and one close to friends and family. I've dreamed about a house for a long time, so this is certainly momentous. We went to the loan officer and sat down for a nerve-wracking meeting while she plucked furiously at her calculator and reviewed our credit report. And without any fanfare at all, she whipped up a letter stating that we are pre-qualified for a loan in X amount toward the home of our choice. Really. It was almost too easy. So, now to the real work. House hunting. Stay tuned.
And this weekend, our friend Leslie will marry Jason and make a big long move to Texas. It might be my last wedding for a good long while, and it will certainly (hopefully) be the last bridesmad dress for a good long while. So, I intend to celebrate happily and send her off well.

Congratulations on the loan approval. How exciting for you both!

Hmmm, yes, perhaps I'll stick with mopping up flood water - at least I can snuggle warmly in bed afterwards! Prickly heat, we use to call it in Durban - where the atmosphere is too moist to evaporate your sweat and it feels as though your pores are having to squeeze water out of you, when you sleep with a sheet over your toes only and with a fan roaring in your ears, and yes, you dream of what it might be like to snuggle in a warm bed,to trudge through mud and puddles, whistling a tune that the gale whips away from your lips before it's heard :-) mad weather. Good luck with the hunt!
Thank you!
