sweet

He loves chocolate. The Nephew does.

He stayed with us when his little brother was born. And when we went to the grocery store, his only request was chocolate. So, I bought him chocolate.

He was promised a chocolate after his bath. And I realized too late that it should have been the other way around (important: chocolate before bath).

When I put him to bed that evening in the blue room, after a book and a song and a prayer, he curled up right next to me.

And he smelled just like chocolate and baby shampoo.

(It's lovely to be an auntie.)

This cannot possibly go without a comment, but what can one possibly say? Only that the Nephew is blessed to have such a lovely auntie. The story that we got from the Nephew's uncle was that it was quite a stretching couple of days. All that matters is that the Nephew was safe and happy, and the cosy cuddle of chocolate and baby shampoo says it all.

Amen.
Father's Day seemed so much more poignant this year seeing kids now adults now parent, aunt, and uncle. I'm so glad S. Africa parents will get all of their kids now adults together at one time this Christmas.

Every night before I go to bed I look at your blog, and for 1 month and 4 days I have been reading "Sweet". It is lovely, and I now know it by heart, so I am looking forward to your turning the page.
