puppynapper

Daisy wants a puppy. She's practically begging me for one.

It all started with the new puppy who lives on our walk route. She's a tee-tiny, yellow puppy who's desperate to play with Daisy. Except that the fence always seems to get in the way. So, Daisy and the puppy run up and down opposite sides of the fence together for a few minutes every morning.

This little puppy is adorable in the extreme. And every time, Daisy looks up at me longingly like: Can we get one? Please. Please. Please.

I'm tempted.

(But Ben says no.)

Then, one day last week, that little puppy started digging out under the fence, with Daisy cheering her on. And before I could stop her, the puppy was squeezing and scooting her round little self right under the fence to be with Daisy.

Oh!

On instinct, I scooped her up and dropped her back over the fence. But for a brief moment, with all that pettable puppy-ness in my hand, I did indeed contemplate stealing her.

Imagine if you will. Daisy and me scurrying down the trail with a stolen puppy in tow. I would be a little delirious with puppy-ness, and Daisy would be skipping alongside me, practically singing: Finally! My very own puppy!

Delightful! I too have been...I mean, KNOX has been wanting a puppy as well these days. I'm secretly (Jason would say no also, meanie husbands) considering one for him- a little girl dog. Do you suppose this is the early equivalent for us of wanting a sibling for our first kid?

I remember when Susie used to play with Max the neibouring snauser. They would race through a hole in the fence and dash round and round our garden, then repeat the whole sequence in MaX's garden. Why don't you invite puppy for a play date?
