Every day, I walk past my neighbor's basil - two giant pots overflowing with a gorgeous bunch of basil. And every day, I am tempted to pluck just a few leaves for a nice caprese salad.
I'm wondering why my neighbor (who I've never seen in person) has put her basil out in a common area. Technically, it sits in front of her apartment...but isn't she afraid that someone (like me) might steal a bit of it? And I wonder (hopefully) if this might be the point. Maybe she put it out with the very intention to share.
Or maybe I'm just trying to justify my urge to steal. But for better or worse, I'm a hopeless goody-goody and can't bring myself to do it . The most I'm guilty of is rubbing a leaf of pretty basil and enjoying that lovely smell on my fingers for as long as it will last.
For now, I'm relegated to buying a pitiful little bunch of basil (already graying in a plastic container) from the grocery store. My resident green thumb, Ben, has been planning to plant a bit of basil for me. But he asked me this question the other day: "Have you seen that packet of basil seeds?"
Which leads me to think that it may be quite some time before I have my own basil. I may be forced to steal from my neighbor.

I think you should leave a note on the basil asking if you can take a little. Make it anonymous and maybe you'll end up with a good blog story.
Also, I'm offering you (and all other bloggers) a free beverage of your choice every time I am included in the blog. :)
