proper explanation

When I was ten, I kept a diary. Only, I was very undisciplined about keeping a diary, so most of my entries started out with an apology. To my Dear Diary. I felt compelled to explain my absence to a blank notebook.

And that leads me to wonder: What's the etiquette when you've failed to post a blog entry for a long, long time?

Do you apologize? Make excuses? So busy. Out of town. Struck silent for a spell (that's closer to the truth).

Or do you...just get on with it already. Start fresh. Pretend six whole weeks of silence didn't even happen. Pick up right where you left off.

I'd like to do that. Just start right here. Today. (But aren't you wondering? Where we've been since June 19, 2007? I know I am).

I feel this compulsion to recount the absent time. Explain myself for posterity. Or something. But how do you catch anyone up on that amount of time? It would be a boring list. I'd have to resort to bullet points. Err. And I like you too much for that.

So, let's just move on, shall we?

(Next up: a proper entry.)

For a fleetingly brief moment I thought we were going to receive something substantial, but it was actually all puff, smoke and vapour. How can one so lovely, so lucid, pen so little in so much? How can one's attention be grabbed by something so diaphenous? How can one be taken for a ride on a bogus buggy? I disappoint myself that I should have got so instantly so excited - "A new BLOG!!" But then Anna is Anna, is she not? Very special. So, I shall wait with characteristic patience, born of long waits.
