eBay and eggs

Well, so much for our valiant efforts at eBay income. We attempted to sell a wedding gift that has been sitting, nicely boxed, in our closet since we got married. A very very expensive Baccarat crystal vase. I would certainly entertain the idea of keeping this vase, except for the fact that is is covered in frosted glass HEARTS.

I shouldn't complain about wedding gifts...because a gift's a gift...and it's the thought that counts...etcetera, etcetera....but you know, I think I would have been perfectly content with a nice set of measuring cups. Hearts, not really our thing, you see.

Apparently, most of the world agrees with me on heart motifs, because we could not get this silly vase to sell on eBay. Please, please, oh pretty please - won't you pay a pretty penny for my vase. To no avail. We topped out at $53, which is much lower than we were hoping for, judging from its actual retail price. Our options now are to re-gift...pass on the vase to the next unsuspecting newly married couple. Hide the vase away in our closet permanently. Or cut our losses, take the money, and run. To the grocery store. Right away. Because the cupboard is bare. And we've been consisting lately on the Egg Diet - seeing as eggs are currently Buy-One-Get-One-Free by the dozen at Harris Teeter.

Omelettes for dinner. Scrambled for breakfast. Eggs in a burrito. Poached eggs for lunch. Eggs on toast. Eggs on their own. Eggs smothered in cheese (to disguise the fact that you are indeed eating eggs for the 10th meal in a row).

You get the picture. And suddenly, those 53 bucks are looking pretty good.

I recommend a green salad for variety. Any tasty herbs growing nearby?
We lived on egg fried rice and popcorn for what seemed like a couple of years in Grahamstown. You do get sick of it ... we're thinking of you both.
