changing it up

So, the time has come. A bit regretfully, I'm giving up my desk in the corner of the guest room where I freelance for a living. And am heading back into the real-world-working-world for a job with a paycheck every two weeks. It's just time. Contracting...self-employment...freelancing...will have to wait for another day. For now, it's pretty clear that I have to put this little dream on the back shelf and update my resume.

It's not altogether a bad thing, really. Like everything, working for myself has its trade-offs. Yes, I have say over my time, and I work from the comfort of my own home with Daisy the Dog curled up at my feet. But collecting payment from clients...and the nervous walk to the mailbox every day hoping that a check has finally arrived...and being all alone all day...and the monthly health-insurance bill. Well, those things I won't miss. Daisy curled up at my feet while I work - that I will miss.

It's bittersweet - but we're thinking optimistically and hoping for a great job to come my way. So, I'm tinkering with my resume and trying to make myself sound brilliant. I know you all were just breathing a sigh of relief with us when Ben found his job last week. But here we are again, so once more into the fray, dear friends. And soon, very soon, we hope to report back with good news of suitable jobs and regular paychecks. It will be a big change...but such is life, I suppose. Just when you think you're settled, it's time to change it up. Life would be boring otherwise. Isn't that right? Right.

Today was the best of the season - a cross between a pretty spring day and a perfect autumn day. It felt like spring (balmy breezy weather), and it looked like autumn (the leaves have finally changed). I took Daisy for a late morning walk - and recorded every moment in my mind, every slight wind, every shift from shade to sunshine, every vein in a crimson oak leaf - because life is about to change. And a late morning walk is not to be taken for granted.

You are brilliant, Anna, and I'm sure employers are going to realise that pretty soon.

Gill, YES Daisy will need a dogsitter. You're hired! Thanks for the encouragement, both of you.
