Well, we've moved. Officially. We're hardly settled in, but we did make the astute decision to move all the unpacked boxes into the extra bedroom and shut the door.
We quickly discovered that the little house comes with nice neighbors. One neighbor even brought over a pan of brownies. Which was so nice! And it was only later that we realized that there was a small square of brownie missing from the pan. New Neighbor tried the Welcome Brownies!
But it only made us like her even more. I mean, who can resist warm brownies out of the oven on a cold afternoon? And besides, we didn't need an entire pan of brownies all to ourselves, did we.
The little house also comes with lots of trees, and it being the very end of autumn - our yard and deck and gutters are overwhelmed with fallen leaves. Ben has some raking ahead of him. Oh, and some painting too.
We're still getting used to all the noises and creaks and sounds of the new house, still discovering little oddities like too-short kitchen shelves, and a slight slope in the guest bathroom (can I just say, it's the strangest feeling to be using the toilet on a slope. We hope our guests don't fall right off).
Happily for Daisy, the little house also comes with miles and miles of walking trails weaving in and out, between and behind warmly lit houses. We've started and ended every day with a walk since we moved in. Shuffling through the leaves on the trails, breathing in wintery air, and slightly disbelieving that this is where we live.
Today, we've both taken off work to celebrate Ben's birthday. No one's even home from work yet - we have the entire street all to ourselves. Ben built a fire, and we're drinking coffee and tea and eating leftover birthday cake. Even Daisy is at home, curled up in front of the fireplace. Contented sigh.
There are boxes to be unpacked and walls to be painted and leaves to be raked. But there's plenty of time for all that. For now, we'll just enjoy the little house. Our first house.
