special delivery

This summer, the U.S. State Department experienced a serious backlog of passport applications. The media was rampant with horror stories about 4-month turnaround on applications and canceled vacations.

Around this time, I remembered that I was still Anna Elizabeth DAUGIRD on my passport.

One $160 check for expedited processing, two photo shoots (the first pasport photo was Bad Bad Bad), and one nervous husband later, the State Department came through with a brand new passport. In only four weeks. They even sent back my marriage certificate. And they sent back my old passport...for which I am very grateful, as it does have surprising sentimental value for a government document.

Greece. Italy. Zimbabwe. Botswana. South Africa. These are very precious stamps. I'm very happy about this. And Ben is very happy that he won't be traveling alone this Christmas.

Thanks, U.S. State Department!

Jonathan and I also had to get new passports. Mine took about three weeks and his took about two months. I guess they really needed to do a through background check on the little guy.

Aren't the new passports so cool? I too really appreciated that they sent back the old one.

Way to go!
