and so it begins

A few signs that summer has started:

- Vegetables on my doorstep from the farming co-op my mother signed us up for this summer. Vidalia onions. Yellow squash. Zucchini. Tomatoes. Strawberries. Asparagus.

- Blue sky late into the evening.

- First grills/braais of the season.

- Summer Fridays at work (half-days every other Friday).

- And of course, the beach.

We took our first ocean swim of the year. This weekend Dyama, Naoshi and their very own dynamic toddler duo, Alex and Sasha, joined us at the beach for the weekend. Alex and Sasha loved Daisy the Dog, and the feeling was quite mutual.

We all took a dip in the ocean. Even Dyama went into the water up her knees (don't believe the bravado -- she's scared of sharks) and splashed herself. It was very hot, and the cold Atlantic of early summer was more than welcome.

We spent both days on the beach, in the sand, in the water, on the kayak. And otherwise eating on the back porch looking out over the sound. It was a very nice way to welcome the beginnings of summertime.

Debo in the water, ONLY up to her knees. Now THAT is the classic sign of summer.
