rest

This is a season full of life. This is a season to watch life grow. Baby Girl kicks and stretches, tucking her feet up under my ribs. Growing stronger. Growing nearer. I think of her as so capable right now, confident in the workings and self-ordained routines of her own little world. The queen of her small domain.

Ben and I just returned from nine days at the beach. The time away became a mile-marker of moving from one season to the next - our last holiday before we become Three. It was a quiet, restful week. We read and slept in and sat on the beach, letting the sun warm our bones right down to the marrow.

I went swimming every day, feeling light and buoyant in a way that I cannot otherwise achieve right now. And in the water, I had this thought: we're swimming together, my baby girl and me. Me in the endless ocean I grew up in. She in her own small ocean inside me.

such sweet times you get to share with this little lady. Enjoy the rest you can get...when she isn't kicking! :)

that last bit is good poetry, put it in your first book of poems.
