notes from a dirty house

We have a new cleaning lady. Her name is Caroline, and she's a Polish immigrant. She's my age, and she has a really boisterous laugh. I like her.

She cleaned our house for the first time yesterday. And when I came home from work, the little house was miraculously clean. It was pretty great.

Caroline left a note for me.

Anna,

As you can see, I did not do much in the kitchen. Your home is small, but a little bit neglected. (smiley face) Don't worry, happens to everyone. (smiley face)

It will take me a couple more times to make it look like new.

Have a great weekend.

Caroline

Oh, for shame.

The first time I read it, I was a little offended by the fact that my house was "small, but a little bit neglected."

The second time I read it, I felt the tiniest bit consoled by "don't worry, happens to everyone. (smiley face)"

And the third time I read it, I observed the little house in my mind, before Caroline ever came to clean.

And I thought: Sigh. She's probably right.

But I do look forward to it looking like new.

After a couple more times.
